New Android Version of TouchDown is LIVE!

You asked for it, dear TouchDown users – a fresh UI has arrived in our flagship TouchDown for Android  (8.4.00082 ) Our new Basic Theme offers some refreshing colors, clean icons, and more approachable lay-out.  Don’t like color? A “Tame” theme is available for those of you you who just want plain old gray.  Love it? Hate it?  Leave us comments below – the more constructive the better!  Those of you on our beta list know we love feedback, and often incorporate it.  Next version will include update on “Tame” and older themes.

 

Hot off the Press – new version of TouchDown for iOS

Yes, yes, yes, it’s a holiday present for you !  Fresh in the iOS App Store, you will find the newest iOS release of TouchDown (3.6.2) with these updates:

• SMIME support fixes
• Updated layout for the iPad
• Updated supported for Themes

How to access these fun new themes?  Simply go to Setting—->General—>Themes.

Pick the one of your choice, and exit out of  the app and reopen to see the changes. Here’s a few shots:

**In order to see everything change to the new theme, you will need to CLOSE the App, then reopen, and you will see the theme applied to each element.

TouchDown for Windows 8.1 arrives November 4th

 

 

 

 

 

 

We at NitroDesk are *SUPER* excited to be launching TouchDown for Windows 8.1 next Monday (November 4th, 2013).  It has been an exciting year of launching TouchDown across several platforms, and Windows 8.1 promises to be exciting, useful and of course, features all of our usual security measures.  TouchDown for Windows has a new facelift, with an elegantly clean UI that beautifully utilizes touch screens with the same great reliability our TouchDown users are accustomed to.

 

 

Here are a few new features  to look forward to:

• Rich text editing when composing an email
• Drag and drop emails when moving to different folders
• Arranging your working view (using the splitters)
• New contact list management

 

The upcoming version (by the end of Nov. ) will include additional features that will be supported only in Windows 8.1 such as:

• Live tiles with mail and calendar updates
• Color Themes
• New configuration and flash screen
• Folder management (create, delete, rename your email folder)
• Group contacts

Backing up your iPhone before you install iOS7

Many iPhone users are giddy with excitement today, feverishly refreshing their ‘check for updates’ or checking the App store, waiting to install the new iOS7. And although all has gone well for those of us who have beta tested it, I always, always encourage you to back up your old OS before jumping to the new.  So, while you wait for the magic time (10am Pacific time perhaps??) that has yet to be announced, heres a quick refresher of how to back up your iPhone to your computer.  Thank me later !

 

Backing up to iTunes:

#1: Connect your iPhone to your desktop/laptop with your USB cable.

#2:  iTunes will launch automatically   and start the sync process, and if your phone is set-up for auto back-up, this will start the back-up process. If not, go on to the next step.

#3: Click on the “Summary” button for your iPhone. Click on the Back Up Now button.  Ta-da!!

Backing up to iCloud:

#1: Connect to Wifi

#2: Tap on your Settings icon

#3: Tap on iCloud

 

#4: Tap on “Storage and Back-up” , then “Back up now.”  The back-up process will start immediately.

    

Now that you are backed up,  install what you like.

 

 

Switching to a slick new Samsung Android device?

This how to switch from one Android device to another tutorial comes from one of our Support Guru’s, Nitrodesk Nanny.  We thought you might need it soon with the new Samsung devices releasing September 25th…And yes, new TouchDown for Android release scheduled for late September!

One of the top 10 questions we receive over at support@nitrodesk.com is how to relicense TouchDown if you switch between Android devices. Let me walk you through it. It’s easy, I promise.

First, you need to download the 30 day free trial version of TouchDown, as it is the main application. You can download the application from the Google Play Store on your device or you can download from our website http://www.nitrodesk.com/purchase. Once you have it installed, configure it with your email account.

If you have Android OS 2.x on your device, you will want to download TouchDown for Smartphones.

If you have Android OS 3.x and above on your device, you will want to download TouchDown HD (for ICS/JB).

We are now ready to activate TouchDown!

You need to determine how you purchased the license originally. We now have several ways of purchasing a license key for TouchDown so this is important.

• Google Market/Play Store/Google Checkout
• Amazon Android App Store
• Esellerate

With Google Market, Google Play Store, or Google Checkout you need to download our license key application. This is called Exchange by TouchDown Key or TouchDown Pro Key. You can log into https://checkout.google.com  to  see which Gmail account you purchased with.

If you purchased via Amazon Android App Store, you will need to have the Amazon application installed and you will need to be logged in with the account you purchased with. More information can be found here: Getting Started

If you purchased via Esellerate you would have received a confirmation email. Within this confirmation email is the serial number you would need to type in to activate TouchDown. If you do not have your confirmation email you can also search for your order here: https://www.mycommerce.com/order-search

TouchDown for Mac – Beta Key

Alright!  Beta testing for TouchDown for Mac is underway…and we LOVE the feedback.  The more feedback we get, the better we can make this product for our users (That’s YOU) , so if you use a Mac, come get your free beta version…which just may turn into a free subscription when you give us feedback…

TouchDown for Mac – Custom notifications

Despite working on the UI on the Mac version of TouchDown, there are still fun features that Goutham (who built it) surprised me with – especially my new favorite feature, the custom notification feature.

I like to know when I have new email, and since I am often working on a Mac desktop, a Macbook air and a Samsung PC  all at the same time, (meaning my eyes aren’t always staring at the inbox), I LOVE that I can create sound notifications.  Not the boring “Ding” that says you have a new email, but awesome, completely custom, speech notifications, PER account.  So lets says I have my main inbox,  which just happens to be my name @nitrodesk.com.  I might have it say “Heh, you have mail.”  or if Im having a bad day, I might even have it say “You are amazing” everytime I receive an email.

The coolest part is not the self-esteem booster, but the fact that I can then go to my second and their and fourth account that I have configured for Touchdown, and give each one a different sound/speech notification.  So for my support email I may have it say “check support email.”  So whether I am pouring over the PC working on some Windows 8 design issue, or having a snack in the lunchroom, I know exactly what account just landed an email that needs my attention.

Want to know who the email is from or who sent it?  You can do that too.  Here’s how:

In general, you will want to select the account you want to change the notification for – below, I have selected my main account, Daniela@nitro….

1. Click on Settings Icon (lower left hand corner)

2. Click on Notifications, making sure its the Notifications tab under the account you want to amend.

3. Select the Speak radio Button

 

4. Enter what you want it to say when you receive a new email in the “Speech String” box

5. If you are feeling down, have it say something positive about you, and send yourself email (ok, maybe that’s me…)

 

 

Differentiating notifications between accounts

If you want to have a different notification for additional accounts you have configured on your TouchDown for Mac, simply click on that account (mine is blank in this example) and repeat steps 1-4 above.  Easy Peasy!!

 

To get even more details, like WHO sent the email, or the title of the email, repeat steps 1-3, and then:

4.  If you want to hear the sender, write something like “Message from” (or email from) and then write “from” like this: %from%      An example would be “Email from %from%”

5. If you want to hear the subject of the email, write something like “email titled %subject%”
   You can even do both, such as “You have an email from %from% with the subject %subject%”

 

SO whether you want  differentiate your incoming email with speech notifications, boost your self-esteem or TouchDown tell you what the subject line is, this is one cool feature I am already hooked on.
